There’s a lot to be learnt about a nation’s culture from the food they buy – and where do most people buy their stuff? Supermarkets. I know that I’m amazed by the concept of wyngz – the genetically modified, reconstituted stuff that is sort of like wings but can’t legally be called that – because over here we tend to think that nature did a good enough job of making our chicken deliciously tasty.
Not in America. You guys need to improve on nature’s perfection, and you need to find a homonym (that means a word that sounds like another: get your minds out of the gutter, smalltown America!) to avoid illegality issues.
It turns out that I’m not the only one who had a bit of a culture shock when visiting a supermarket on your fair shores. Here’s Alex Day (who’s most famous for his internet series Alex Reads Twilight) and his friend Liam Dryden taking a visit around a Walmart.
